Ginseng from Korea
For centuries, the ginseng root has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and in European medicine to treat a wide variety of ailments. The genus Panax comprises the various ginseng species. Ginseng has been cultivated for thousands of years, especially in Korea. The long experience of many centuries, but also the special climatic conditions in which ginseng grows in Korea, make it the highest quality ginseng in the world. A ginseng root can only be harvested after four to six years in the ground. This duration further contributes to the fact that the cultivation of ginseng is very time-consuming and needs extensive labor. The necessary special soil is another reason that makes Korean ginseng famous. These characteristics and quality have created the basis for the fame of Korean ginseng tea beyond the borders of Korea and even Asia.
During its long time in the earth, the ginseng root absorbs a variety of natural substances, which are found in the tea. For example, ginseng contains vitamins of the B-complex, amino acids and of course the ginsenosides (from the class of saponins).
