Premium Sencha from Japan
This loose Kumamoto Sencha Tea Premium in organic quality is produced with fresh spring water from the Kikuchi spring in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu. That’s why the locals call this tea Kikuchi Suigen (“water source of Kikuchi”) in Japanese. It is characterized by its sweet, round taste and refreshing aroma. The unique taste is the result of frequent changes in weather and temperature and the foggy days typical of this region.
The tea gardens of Kumamoto -Sencha tea are located 300 to 500 meters above sea level in the mountains northeast of Aso Gairisan, the Aso volcano. The gardens cover an area of 179 hectares – in the middle of untouched nature. The Kikuchi Valley, through which the waters of the Kikuchi River flow, is densely covered with deciduous trees and, together with the course of the river and the hilly landscape, forms a magnificent idyll.
Characteristics:
Before the infusion
- The shape of the Sencha leaves: tapering towards the ends, needle-shaped; appear robust, almost steel
- Color: strong, dark green
- Fragrance: mild forest scent, one thinks to perceive a touch of Japanese ink
After the infusion
- Color: has the light green, the slightly cloudy color of young rice grasses
- The fragrance of Sencha: delicate and reserved, reminiscent of the maritime scent of spring-fresh Wakame
- Flavor: harmoniously complete, round taste with a slightly sweetish note
The right preparation for Sencha:
- 2.5 grams, 70 degrees, 200 ml, 3 min., suitable for several infusions
- Boil the water until it is bubbling to obtain soft water. Soft water is especially important for the preparation of green tea, as only in this way can umami, taste and aroma unfold.
“The Golden Drop”: In Japan, this is the name of the last infusion drop that goes into the cup and in which umami, taste, and aroma are concentrated. “In this last drop, the effort and reward of our work is manifested”, say the local tea farmers.
Notes on storage: Store closed package in a cool and dry place and avoid direct sunlight. On hot days, it is advisable to store the package in a cool place in a resealable bag.
