Just like tea, ginseng came to Europe by Dutch sailors in the 17th century. In Asia, however, ginseng has been used as a medicinal plant for thousands of years. Korean ginseng is the best and highest quality of all other ginseng gardens.
The difference between red and white ginseng is in the way it is processed. Red ginseng acquires its typical colour through a gentle steam process, while white ginseng is processed without steam.
Both ginseng products bear the Insam mark (drawn ginseng root). Only products that meet certain quality criteria and come from Korea are allowed to use this sign.
